About the St. Louis Blues NHL Hockey Team

The St. Louis Blues are a National Hockey League Team (NHL) that plays their home games at Enterprise Center In St. Louis. MO. They play in the Central division of the Western Conference. Other NHL teams in the same division include the Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota WildColorado Avalanche, Dallas StarsWinnipeg Jets, and the Nashville Predators.

The Blues joined the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1967. They were part of a six-team expansion for the NHL that year. The other five teams were the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia FlyersPittsburgh Penguins, Dallas Stars, and Oakland Seals. The Blues were extremely successful right from the beginning as they managed to make the Stanley Cup Finals each of the first 3 years of existence. Although they would lose the series in all three of those Finals appearances, it was a very impressive feat and helped the NHL have a better outlook on expansion. One side note about losing those all three Stanley Cup series is the fact that they did not win one game in any of the three years. The 1967-68 team started the 3-year streak losing to the Montreal Canadians 4-0. They would again face the Canadians again in 1969, again losing 4 games to nothing, Facing the Boston Bruins at the end of the 1969-70 season didn't fare any better as the Blues lost 4-0 to the Bruins in the 1970 Stanley Cup Final.

More Stanley Cups and Playoff Appearances

As a St. Louis Blues Hockey fan, you have to be happy with the fact that the team has made the playoffs in 82% of the seasons that they have played in since their existence. In fact, that is such a great percentage that it is easier to list the much shorter list of years that they did not make the playoffs:

St. Louis Blues Only Missed the Playoffs in 9 Of the Seasons That they've played

  • 1974
  • 1978
  • 1979
  • 2006
  • 2007
  • 2008
  • 2010
  • 2011
  • 2018

In all, as of 2020, the Blues have played 53 NHL Hockey seasons and have made a playoff appearance in 44 of them. Of that 44 playoff appearances, they went on to play in the Stanley Cup Finals 4 times and did not win their first Stanley Cup final until the 2018-19 season when they beat the Boston Bruins in game 7 to win the series 4-3.

Going to a St. Louis Blues Hockey Game

If you are making your way to Enterprise Center to see a St. Louis Blues hockey game, there are some things that you should know to prepare yourself for your visit.

  1. Arrive early: For St. Louis Blues games, the Enterprise Center opens its gates 90 minutes prior to puck drop. Get there early to avoid late-arriving crowds.
  2. Dress Warm. This is a hockey game that you will be attending and it could get quite cold. It is better to have an extra sweatshirt and not need it than to need a sweatshirt and not have one.
  3. Do not try to get up during a play: If you need to go to the restroom, or you are getting up for concessions, wait until play has stopped. Nothing irritates other St, Louis Blues fans more than having to get up or someone trying to pass by their seats when play is in action.
  4. Scream "Blues" during the National Anthem: At the end of the National Anthem, instead of singing home of the "Brave", St. Louis Blues fans yell "Blues". Yell it as loud as you can.
  5. Watch for Towel Man: After the Blues score a goal, look at the 300 sections of the arena. Towel Man will usually come to the end of the aisle and start celebrating by twirling his towel. He will usually then throw a towel or t-shirt into the crowd.
