About the Nashville Predators Hockey Team
The Nashville Predators are a National Hockey League Team (NHL) that plays their home games at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. They play in the Central division of the Western Conference. Other NHL teams in the same division include the Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, and the Colorado Avalanche.
The Predators first joined the NHL in the 1998 -99 season as an NHL expansion team. It was a very tough first year for the Predators as they failed to make the playoffs and ended the season with a 24-47-7 record. The following 4 seasons would not be much better as the team continued to lose. It was not until their 6th season when the 2003-04 team went 38-29-11 to finish 3rd in the Central Division and qualify as the 8th seed for their first Stanley Cup playoff appearance. In that year they played the number 1 seed Detroit Red Wings and went on to lose 4-2.
The next season, 2004-05, looked even more promising as Nashville started the season by winning their first 8 games. They would go on to finish with a 49-35-8 record, only to be knocked out of the playoffs 4-1 in the 1 st round conference quarterfinals by the San Jose Sharks. While continuing to put what management considered a very good team, the Predators would end up making the playoffs 3 out of the next 4 years, losing in the first round in each of those appearances, making the first five playoff appearances for the franchise all first-round exits.
First Stanley Cup Playoff Series Victory
In the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs, Nashville finally broke their first-round losing trend by defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-2, only to lose in the next round to the Vancouver Canucks by the same game margin of 4-2. The 2011-12 season looked promising and once again the Predators survived the first round by defeating the Detroit Red Wings, only to get knocked out of the second round to the Phoenix Coyotes (now the Arizona Coyotes) 4-1. They would fail to make the playoffs the following 2 seasons.
First and Only Stanley Cup Finals Appearance
Following the 2016-17 regular season, the Predators flew through the 2017 playoffs by defeating the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks to earn their first Stanly Cup Finals appearance in franchise history. They would go on to lose that series to the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2. It was their first and only Stanley Cup finals appearance.
