The New Jersey Devils are a National Hockey League team (NHL) that plays their home games at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. They play in the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference. Other NHL teams in the same division include the Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Islanders, Washington Capitals, and the New York Rangers. Because the NJ Devils share the same division with all of these teams, they will play them each either 4 or 5 times on the schedule this year, for a total of 28 inter-division games.
On October 11th, 1967, the Philadelphia Plyers played their first game in the National Hockey League. The team was part of a 6 team expansion in the NHL that year. The other 5 teams were the Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota North Stars, Oakland Seals, and the St. Louis Blues. Behind head coach Keith Allen, Philadelphia finished that first season with a respectable 31-32-11 record and made the playoffs. They would go on to lose in round 1 of the playoffs to the St. Louis Blues but it was clear that this new NHL franchise was starting off in the right direction. As a matter of fact, the Flyers made the playoffs in all but two of their first 22 seasons and won their first Stanley Cup Championship in just their seventh year in the league. They would go on to win the Stanley Cup the following season also, giving them two Stanley Cup championships in their first eight seasons.
The Flyers played at the Spectrum in Philadelphia from 1967-68 hockey season until the end of the 1995-1996 hockey season. They played their first game at their new home, what is now known as the Wells Fargo Center on October 5th, 1996, and have played there since. Philadelphia has not been able to win a Stanley Cup since they moved into their new stadium and have missed the playoffs 5 out of their first 15 years playing there. Let's break down all of the team's playoff and Stanley Cup Appearances in their history.
Philadelphia has managed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs a total of 40 times in their franchise history. Recent seasons have literally been on and off as far as making the playoffs as they have made the playoffs every other year since 2012, making their last appearance in 2020. The most impressive fact is that they have only missed making any kind of playoff appearance 12 times since they first joined the league in the 1967-68 season. Here are the team's playoff appearances by decade.

Out of the 41 times that the Philadelphia Flyers have made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they have made the Finals a total of 8 times and only winning Lord Stanley's Cup two of those times. The last time that the team made it to the Finals was in 2010 when they faced the Chicago Blackhawks in a best of 7 series and lost in 6 games, 4-2. You would have to go all the way back to the early years of the franchise to find the last time the Flyers won a Stanley Cup Finals Championship. That came in 1975 when they won their 2nd of back to back Stanley Cups after defeating the Buffalo Sabres 4-2. Although they have managed to appear in 6 more Stanley Cup Finals since then, they have not won and it has currently been 45 years since they won a championship for the city of Philadelphia who is longing for the team to end their drought.
