About the Philadelphia 76ers Basketball Team
The Philadelphia 76ers are a National Basketball Association (NBA) team that plays its home games at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. The team name "76ers" comes from a reference to the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
The Sixers have 17 former players and 4 former coaches who have been inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame, with the most recent player that has been inducted being Bobby Jones, who was elected to the HOF in 2019. Jones played for the team for 8 seasons from 1978-1986. In addition, other great Hall of Fame players like Charles Barkley and Alan Iverson has also played for the 76ers, but no one can argue that the greatest player to ever play for the Sixers was HOF Center, Wilt Chamberlin. Already a legend in the city of Philadelphia because he was the first player to score 100 points in a professional basketball game when he played for the city's former professional franchise, the Philadelphia Warriors, Chamberlin came back to the city and played for the sixers from 1965 to 1968.
Fans have been re-gaining interest in the 76ers the last few years because the franchise has finally seemed to turn around its losing ways and put a legitimate contender on the floor.
